Birds are fascinating creatures believed to be the descendants of dinosaurs.
They have an incredible respiratory system and a very fast metabolic rate that allows them to perform feats that would be impossible for mammals (with a few exceptions).
Most can fly, some can swim underwater and the largest can run at a pace that puts most other animals to shame.
I will update this page as I go along but my first post is on Hildebrandt's starling which I saw many a time on my travels in Kenya earlier this month.
So far in alphabetical order (yes, yes - I know):
Grey crowned crane (Balearica regulorum)
Hildebrandt's starling (Lamoritirnis hildebrandti)
Masai Ostrich (Struthio camelus massaicus)
North African Ostrich (Struthio camelus camelus)
Secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius)
More coming soon!
